Net4Cities has reached an important project milestone with the successful installation of its final monitoring instruments in Wedel, Germany. With this deployment, all 33 Lung Deposited Surface Area (LDSA) instruments developed by naneos and 24 Condensation Particle Counters (CPCs) developed by Airmodus are now operational across the project’s monitoring network.

The installations form part of Net4Cities‘ effort to better understand ultrafine particle pollution and its impacts on urban environments across the 13 partner cities.
The final deployment was made possible through the long-standing collaboration between the Institute of Environmental Physics at the University of Bremen and the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). Thanks to this partnership, the instruments were installed in Wedel along the Elbe River, providing a valuable opportunity to investigate particle emissions from shipping activities.

While road traffic remains a major focus of Net4Cities, measurements at the Wedel site will also contribute to a better understanding of emissions associated with maritime transport and their influence on local air quality.
With the deployment phase now complete, the project enters the next stage of continuous monitoring and data analysis. The measurements collected over the coming months and years will provide valuable insights into ultrafine particle concentrations and sources across a diverse range of European urban environments.

The Net4Cities consortium would like to thank all partners involved in the deployment process, as well as naneos, Airmodus, the University of Bremen, and BSH for their support in achieving this important milestone.
