Webinar Recording Available: Nature-Based Solutions for Air and Noise Pollution

On 4 June 2026, Net4Cities hosted the public webinar „Nature-Based Solutions for Cities: Reducing Air and Noise Pollution“, bringing together researchers, city representatives, urban practitioners, and environmental experts to discuss the role of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in creating healthier and more sustainable urban environments.

The webinar explored how interventions such as street trees, green roofs, vegetated corridors, pocket parks, and green noise barriers can contribute to reducing air and noise pollution while delivering broader benefits for health, well-being, and urban liveability.

The webinar featured presentations from both the Net4Cities project and invited contributors from the MI-TRAP project, providing complementary perspectives on the implementation and benefits of Nature-Based Solutions in urban environments:

Maria Stella Lux and Stavroula Kopelia (Politecnico di Milano, MI-TRAP)

In their presentation, *“Co-designing Nature-Based Solutions: MI-TRAP labs in Milan, Athens and Lisbon“*, the speakers showcased how students and teachers are actively involved in the co-design of Nature-Based Solutions around schools. Their work demonstrates how environmental monitoring, education, and participatory planning can empower young people to contribute to healthier urban environments while addressing mobility-related pollution.

Jaume Fons-Esteve and Hai-Ying Liu (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and NILU, Net4Cities)

The Net4Cities presentation provided an overview of the current scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of Nature-Based Solutions for mitigating air and noise pollution. The speakers discussed both the opportunities and limitations of NbS, highlighting the importance of context-specific implementation and the broader health and liveability co-benefits associated with urban green infrastructure.

The webinar concluded with an engaging discussion and Q&A session, allowing participants to exchange experiences and perspectives on the practical implementation of Nature-Based Solutions in cities.

The Net4Cities consortium would like to thank all participants for joining the webinar and contributing to the discussion, as well as the speakers for sharing their expertise and insights.
